Or maybe it was ill timing on my part - the strong tracking on his moves kept catching me while I tried to heal, and my weapons would hit the edge of his shield even when I had a clear shot, resulting in a protracted battle that lasted 10+ minutes, including three minutes of magic pixel madness. While he's no Defiled Watchdog, the boss himself is still decently tough. He can also use his shield to summon two Dark Spirits - including ones controlled by real players.
